Khamara Harris is a Black cisgender woman and a licensed graduate professional counselor (LGPC) and resident in counseling. She specializes in working with families, adults, and children, offering compassionate, culturally responsive support tailored to their unique needs through play, somatic, expressive, and trauma therapies.
In 2016, Khamara earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 2012 from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Her journey to becoming a counselor was shaped by persistence, growth, and a strong sense of purpose to help end the transmission of generational trauma within communities from marginalized populations. Therefore, Khamara pursued a second masters degree in clinical mental health counseling at Capella University. In January 2024, Khamara began her internship at PlayfulLeigh Psyched under the supervision of within agency trainer, Dr. Dowtin. Through the guidance, training, mentorship, and gaining training in parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), Khamara has been able to dive deeper into addressing generational trauma and supporting patients as they work toward healing and breaking cycles of trauma.
As a proud, educated Black woman, Khamara brings authenticity, empathy, and cultural awareness to her counseling approach. She believes in the importance of creating meaningful change through collaboration and compassion. As a member of a dynamic team at PlayfulLeigh Psyched, Khamara shares how to help children and families who are impacted by complex co-parenting relationships.
