Brooke is a fourth-year doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at the University of Maryland College Park (UMD) and a first-generation college student. She received her BA in Psychology with a minor in English from Kenyon College in 2018. Her doctoral work has been supervised by Dr. Tracy Riggins in the Neurocognitive Development lab. Brooke is committed to providing developmentally informed, family-centered assessment and intervention for children and caregivers navigating anxiety, behavioral dysregulation, emotion regulation difficulties, and chronic stress. Brooke is particularly interested in how caregiver mental health, family dynamics, and environmental stressors shape children’s emotional and cognitive development. She is committed to culturally responsive, strengths-based care that supports both child functioning and caregiver well-being. Her research complements this clinical focus by examining how perinatal substance use, caregiver depression, and early environmental stress influence early brain and behavioral development. Using longitudinal and multimodal methods, she aims to identify modifiable family-level processes that can serve as early intervention targets to promote resilience and prevent intergenerational transmission of risk.
