Dr. Samuel Peer is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology and licensed child clinical psychologist, with over 20 years of professional experience working with youth and families. He obtained his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Central Michigan University and completed his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. He has worked in diverse settings, including the National Child Victim Center, the Children's Hospital of Michigan, juvenile correctional facilities, schools, child advocacy centers, and the foster system. Currently, he is the Director of Clinical Training and tenured faculty of ISU's Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. As a clinical scientist, he regularly conducts and publishes research on child behavioral health issues. Clinically, he has completed certification-level training in multiple best practice treatments, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Prolonged Exposure, and Integrated Behavioral Couples Therapy. However, his primary specialization is Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, having participated in over 30 different PCIT trainings to individuals and agencies from across the world. Relatedly, he has completed training in multiple PCIT adaptations (e.g., CALM, PCIT-SM, PCIT-T) by said protocol developers, and he is the creator of a standardized adaption of PCIT for middle childhood (PCIT-MC) as well as co-author of multiple PCIT-relevant measures (e.g., Therapist-Parent Interaction Coding System, Psychosocial Strengths Inventory for Children and Adolescents).
